5 Your ISP Is Not Within The ISP List? Here's What To Do!

If you have checked the ISP List and found that the ISP you want to connect to is not there, do not worry!

Here is a step-by-step guide detailing what to do if your ISP is not within our list:

  1. Install NetConnect as normal (as detailed within Installation). When you are asked to configure AmiTCP still say YES! However, only change the modem and serial settings where necessary (see the section on configuring AmiTCP prefs for more info) and then press SAVE.

You now have three options for inserting your ISP information.

    ..you can EITHER:

  2. Call one of our BBS sites! We have a special NetConnect area on two BBS's - one in the UK and another with Germany. These BBS sites contain the very latest provider profile information.

There could be a good chance (although not guaranteed) that your ISP could have a configuration on this BBS.

You can connect to these BBS sites *without* the need to connect to the Internet. So how do you connect?

One of the programs within NetConnect is AmTerm. This is terminal communications program for your Amiga - MUI based of course. As you would expect, using it is a dream!

Once you have installed NetConnect remember to reboot. When you see the icon bar you can launch AmTerm from the "modem" button - if you hold you mouse over the button the bubble help will say "AmTerm" (see section on bubble help for more information on this feature. Press this button an AmTerm will start.

    AmTerm Button

AmTerm will use the modem and serial settings you configured within AmiTCP prefs (see configuring amitcp if you are confused).

Remember to have your modem connected, turned on and ready to go.

If you are in the UK select the NetConnect UK Support Site from the menu as shown and press DIAL. AmTerm should now dial the NetConnect support site and automatically bring you into the correct area within the BBS.

You will be presented with a menu containing four items. See below for more information.

Goto section 1, select the country you require and then browse the list of ISPs. If the ISP you want to join is listed, type in its name and carry on as normal (the file will be stored ready for download).

When you are back at the menu section press option 2 (download files) and you should be able to download the ISP setting.

Once it has downloaded, start AmiTCP Prefs, goto the menu and select "Import Provider" - you will be able to load your provider into AmiTCP. Once this has been imported goto the section about configuring AmiTCP - insert your other details where necessary.

    ..OR:

  3. Contact us and tell us which ISP you want to connect to. We can then contact the ISP and get all the information you need. We can then place this information onto the support BBS.

We need the following information from you:

How do you contact us? Either by facsimile or by sending us a message from option 3 in the BBS conference. Log in (as in step 2) and then choose option 3 from the main menu - send us a message with the information above.

We will respond and put the new ISP data on the BBS support site. You can *import* this into AmiTCP Prefs - see section 2 for more info.

    ..OR:

  4. Contact your ISP and insert the necessary information yourself. Sounds hard? No, not at all. Follow the details below and you'll be fine.

Phone/contact your ISP and ask them for this info (most will send this information when you contact anyhow!):

Insert this info where necessary the AmiTCP Prefs. Refer to the Login Script section for information about how to create your login script.

If you want to send this information to us (by facsimile or through the BBS) we will create you a "Provider Profile" which you can then import into AmiTCP Prefs - see section 2 for more info.
